Another outstanding inspection report for Hereford Sixth Form College

13th March 2007

Hereford Sixth Form College was recently selected to be part of a survey of institutions known for excellence in teaching Science and Psychology. This consisted of an OFSTED inspection at short notice which looked at three aspects of work – Achievement & Standards, Quality of Provision and Leadership & Management. All were graded as 'OUTSTANDING'.

The report states:

"For many subjects the proportion of students who achieve the highest grades are well above those found nationally".

"Value added data shows that for most AS and A level subjects students achieve higher grades than would be expected given their prior attainment at GCSE."

"Students' behaviour and attitudes to learning are outstanding."

"Teaching and learning and consistently of a very high quality"

"There is a very good range of courses at AS and A level and GCSE including different options from those usually studied at high school."

"The College's arrangements for learning support and the pastoral system are highly effective."

Principal, Jonathan Godfrey said "This short notice inspection was a thorough examination of some of the largest departments in the College and I was pleased the excellent performance recorded by OFSTED in previous visits had not just been maintained but improved even more."
