More Sculpture Success for Leon

4th October 2011

Student, Leon Cheung, continues to forge a name for himself in the art world after recently coming third in a prestigious sculpture competition on the theme of Paralympic Sport – ‘Sculpture and Sport A Celebration for 2012’.

Leon’s sculpture was an impressive piece showcasing the Paralympic 100m Sprint. Leon said, “I wanted to capture the intensity of the facial expression on my subject at the initial start of the race and positioned the muscles to express feelings of determination, aggression and focus. I created an anatomical figure as I wanted to demonstrate the tense mechanical structures of the human form and how it collaborates with the prosthetic limb, merging the bio-mechanics.”

Sylvia Stiff, Art Tutor, said, “Leon is a brilliant student and applied and created the work independently. He was up against strong competition - those who already had design-led backgrounds and those of the more mature variety - not aged 17 doing their A levels – a fantastic achievement.”

The short-listed finalists work, including Leon’s, is currently being displayed at the Paralympic Simulation Training Camp hosted by the University of Bath.
Congratulations, Leon.
