Hereford Sixth Form College Says "Good Morning" to Prospective Students

22nd November 2011

Hereford Sixth Form College held its first ever Open Morning on Saturday, 19th November and prospective students and their parents streamed through the doors coming from all over Herefordshire, as well as Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and the Welsh borders.

It was a fun and informative morning with many current students giving up their Saturday morning to help with Science experiments, Geology competitions and show their expertise in Sport, Drama and Music.

All Departments had a very successful morning and the College Library was particularly busy with footfall up by 47% on last year’s November event with visitors keen to take a look at the Cloisters, the Library’s new silent study area. Visitors commented on the difference in size in comparison with school libraries as well as the good range of resources. Many were especially happy to see the books as well as computers.

Jackie Jones, Head of the Library, felt the change to a morning from an evening event had a very positive effect saying, “people seemed more relaxed, more willing to chat and took more time to look around”.

One parent also took the time to write in and said, “I just wanted to say how highly impressed my son and I were when we looked around the College on Saturday. The quality and enthusiasm of the staff was superb, along with the choice of subjects, the buildings and indeed the entire campus”.

All in all it was a tremendously successful event and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to come and visit.
