These newly branded ensembles, formed from the choral and instrumental scholars at Hereford Sixth Form College have developed as a result of collaboration with top professionals from national orchestras, universities and conservatoires. The ensembles include a combination of advanced students and top professional musicians. Julian Lloyd Webber, patron of the Academia Musica, has given his support to the project: “More and more people are realising the power that music has to bring people and communities together, so it is wonderful that
Director of Music, Aryan O. Arji, is proud of the standards that have already been reached by these ensembles and the success of the professional mentoring approach: “It is remarkable that scholars at Hereford Sixth Form College have already been offered an international recording contract with Priory Records and have performed with a number of top professional institutions, including the English Symphony Orchestra and Cambridge University College Choirs. The next stage of this programme, to launch the ensembles as semi-professional entities, begins in earnest this Saturday.” Scholars at Hereford Sixth Form College are routinely offered the best university places, including King’s College Cambridge and top conservatoires. Their A-Level results last year were some of the best in the country (100% A* - B).
Jonathan Godfrey, Principal of Hereford Sixth Form College, said that he was impressed by the standards achieved by the music scholars: “The discipline that these young people show to their work is commendable and our aim is to provide for Herefordshire concerts that rank among some of the best professional performances this county has seen.”
