David Ventura, former Director of Music, publishes a new book
8th February 2012
You might think that retirement is a period of time when someone can unwind and relax as much as they like… but this certainly isn’t the case for David Ventura, former Head of Music and Music Technology. Why? - because he has just published another book! David has already written articles for Classroom Music magazine and Rhinegold’s book Film Music in Focus.
His latest venture (no pun intended!) has been another book publication for Rhinegold called Understanding Popular Music.
Quoting from the back cover, “Understanding Popular Music tells the story of the many different styles, performers and instruments that have emerged since the term ‘pop music’ was first coined in the 1950s… iTunes, Spotify and YouTube playlists have been created to accompany the book, and original audio is available on a companion website to illustrate the various techniques and musical elements discussed.”
Understanding Popular Music is very colourful and engaging – ideal for students and teachers of Music, Music Technology and Performing Arts. The book is also ‘an invaluable resource for musicians writing their own songs, and will prove a fascinating analysis of the genre’.
Current staff in the Music department - Peter Fletcher and Nathan Scott - have been thanked in the introduction of the book for their help with preparing the website audio clips.
Understanding Popular Music is available to buy from all good book sellers and the College’s Library and Learning Resources Centre also has a copy in stock.
